Diary of Kelly's service as a Navy diver during World War II in Palermo, Sicily and Naples, Italy, August 1, 1943-February 18, 1944. He was with the 1051st Engineers Port Construction and Repair Group whose mission was to repair ports for use by the allies. Includes comments on German air raids, casualties, hours of diving, the Italian surrender in 1943, starving populations in Sicily.Work on a destroyer, cargo ship, and HMS Palamares in Naples, visits to an orphanage, numerous air raids, explosions, and bombs in the harbor. Newspaper Clippings, letters of commendation, and a special order are included.
